The Comic
What the hell is going on in this comic?
First off, the solicitation is WAY off. Seriously. I'm not so sure that this is an aftermath of an assault on NOWHERE's headquarters as much as it is an actual assault on NOWHERE's headquarters that continued from last issue. Wonder Girl is alive, found, and well. Superboy hasn't announced any decision to lead the team. And then finally, Kid Flash is not seeing any glimpses into anything other than his teammates dying and then he wakes up into reality.
Basically this comic is a guessing game as to if the heroes are in actual reality or not. It flips depending more on the fact if the plot needs it to or not. In the end, the whole premise was to get these "ceremonial garbs" on the heroes that make their costumes look like a colored version of a Tron suit. I mean, something akin to what Superboy already has.
In the end, we basically have one note villains with one note powers that will only ever be used for the purposes that they use them for in this comic and then they are off to The Culling, or whatever nonsense they want to use that has building up since issue 1. And if this is the great payoff of all that, then there must have been something I've been missing, because this feels like a let down.
The Art
We have our first guest artist for Teen Titans. Its not too shabby with the work. The kids are still teenage shaped and not muscle bound superheroes. I honestly can't tell if the artist has any consistency outside of that with the depictions of the different realities going on. I'm not overly impressed but it does carry this crazy story.
The Cover
Again, colored Tron inspired suits on all our heroes. Even comes with a "grid" that they are hovering on. I'm not entirely sure what the background and the "floor" are supposed to be, and the comic itself doesn't seem to tell us anything either. Once again, Superboy doesn't even appear in this issue so its a wonder as to why he is there.
Honestly, all I can think about is how much of a rip off those costumes look like.
Grades
Words: 5/10
Pictures: 6/10
Recommend: For a "Prelude" to the whole The Culling mess that has only been hinted about in this book, it needed to not jump realities in order to help us understand the premise and give us a reason to care about the upcoming event. It barely did that on both ends. Definitely not a comic for first timers to the series.
Buy Next Issue: Next issue is the Annual. Let's see how that one pans out.
