The Solicitation
The breakneck pace of Grant Morrison's run on ACTION COMICS continues as the Superman of the present day must team up with suspiciously different versions of the Legion of Super-Heroes to save the jeans-wearing Superman of five years ago! Whose hand is that on the cover? Why, the leader of the Anti-Superman Army, of course!
Plus, a backup by Sholly Fisch and ChrisCross that spins directly out of the lead story!

The Story
Um...
The Legion comes from the future with the Superman from five years in the future to the current Superman's moon base. Once there, they get attacked by some shape shifting thing they eventually defeat by turning into a worm.
Then the Legion shrinks themselves down and have to travel to the Superman's brain because inside his brain is a small bubble that contains 30 people who are having an auction for the last bits of Kryptonite to be used by the Anti-Superman army to defeat Superman. The Kryptonite explodes, poisoning Superman's mind. Superman is then saved when he gets near his rocket that brought him to earth and the rocket awakens because Kryptonite is what powers it. The Legion then place Superman in the rocket for him to heal and then they travel back in time. I don't know if Superman is still in the rocket or not.
We then get a flash in the past (or is it a memory?) of Superman wearing a Legion flight ring and hanging around with the Legion as a teenager, which he didn't remember before.
I'm not sure where this was supposed to be going, but I enjoyed the ride. It wasn't something that you could get just through a quick read, you have to sit and focus on it. The story structure itself is simple, but Morrison puts in many twists and really goes as far out with where the characters are coming from that it is more complicated then it should be.
But I can't complain it wasn't packed with some really weird goodness.
Back Up Story
Clark leaves his childhood home and heads off to college. He says good bye to a couple of his supporting cast from the old DC universe and we get to see how they are being shown in this universe. Not sure how this spun out of the main story, but there was so much in the main story that the back up could have picked from that it doesn't matter. Fairly generic, nothing that is important at all.
The Art
Predictable Kubert stuff. I can't knock it too much, but I've been so used to it for years that it doesn't impress me too much.
In the back up, Chriscross still looks weird in this style. The people especially look awkward to me. It has a style similar to Risso from 100 Bullets, but less use of the shading and inks with more backgrounds and details.
The Cover
The contrast of the colors just makes me want to look away. The pencil work looks good, but it really is the colors that throws it off and puts it more on the bad end of things for me.
Grades
Words: 7/10
Pictures: 6/10 - like I said, I've seen this from him for years. Time to innovate a little.
Recommend: If you want to keep up with the weirdness and be entertained a bit, sure. This isn't a comic that you show someone to convince them to start reading comics.
Buy Next Issue: It's the conclusion to the story that was last seen in issue 4. I need both the artwork and the story to really connect otherwise I am gone. Morrison's new take on Superman just hasn't been as thrilling to me as his iconic take on Superman in All Star Superman.
