Aquaman #2
Geoff Johns: writer
Ivan Reis: penciller
Joe Prado: inker
If you read the last issue, you realize that everyone in the comic wasn't taking Aquaman seriously. Would you believe, but this issue features the same problem. No one likes him. No one takes him seriously. Except for one lowly deputy who Aquaman once helped.
We. Get. It. Aquaman=loser superhero.
Remember those bad guys that were in the end of the last issue? They're back. Do we learn anything about them? They eat humans and are taking Aquaman back to "The Trench." Whatever that is.
S.L.O.W.
Even the cover of the first issue is recycled and reused as the reflection in the eyes of the bad guys in this issue.
I'm not trying to hate. I have always had faith that Johns could pull off a good story in the long haul. But if I'm a new reader to this hero, or to this New DC universe, why would I have to care what happens next to a hero that I didn't care about before?
I seriously, SERIOUSLY hope that the next issue does something. Give me a reason to stay. Give me a reason to care. Right now I don't have one for either. I'm not a man of faith, I need to see something that will make me go wow and want to throw my money down for the next issue. It used to be that just seeing Johns on the cover would do it for me, but now I barely get excited. It is hard to describe that I am dreadful of the next issue.
To show some sense of positivism out of this comic, I will say that Reis is doing good with what he is given. My one complaint is that this comic reads like it is an old school, widescreen comic. the one problem is that it is hard to do a widescreen/action style comic with little action. When the comic is set up as a mostly talking heads comic, you get the feeling of wasted art talent.
Words: 4/10
Pictures: 7/10
Recommend: No. Definitely if you are new.
Buy Next Issue: For my three issue try rule, but that is it. The book has one more month to sell me before it gets dropped.
