Comics! Batwing #3

Batwing #3

Written by Judd Winick
Art & Cover by Ben Oliver

Talk about a title that grows on you. I was doubtful at first, really thinking that not much could be done with this book. I didn't have much faith in Judd Winick. The art was blah. But it is growing on me.

We get a little bit of an origin story, and I think that it is set up well. It gives me a feeling that I know who the person under the Massacre mask really is: the brother of Batwing.

We get a big fight in this issue between Batwing and Massacre. Thunder Fall, a member of the Kingdom - Africa's first superhero team, helps out a bit before needing to be saved. Batwing takes him to the hospital where things don't look so good.

Overall this is a very well done book. It has proper pacing, let's the art shine a bit, and brings you along for the ride. The characters all seem familiar (and being Batman type knock offs, this is how you should feel it), yet you can tell that this is different.

This isn't a book that I was willing to say was spectacular awesomeness that everyone needed to read when I first picked it up, but now I would say that. Get this book. Out of all the Bat-books, this is one I would definitely recommend for new readers. This is a book I would recommend for old readers too. This might end up being one of the lower selling Bat-books, but I think it is better done than Nightwing or Batgirl, and those will see more readers than this book. Winick has stepped up his game, and Oliver has won me over as well.

Words: 7/10
Pictures: 7/10
Recommend: Definitely. Get it. Everyone.
Buy Next Issue: As long as it keeps growing on me, I will. It is one of the books I am looking forward to reading.
